Winter Adventures at Moro Pass: Discover 3 Unique Itineraries
Reaching Moro Pass from the hamlet of Staffa by the two cable cars opens up three exclusive routes for experiencing winter in close contact with nature, using snowshoes or crampons.
Emerald Lake Tour
From the moment you leave the station, follow the slope groomer to the left until you reach the picturesque frozen lake in just 10 minutes. Continue along the north shore of the lake to the base of the steps leading to the Statue of Our Lady of the Snow. If you prefer a relaxed walk, you can easily return to the station by following the same trail. In about 35 minutes, this tour gives you a short but intense experience immersed in a dreamy natural setting.
Ascent to “Madonnina”
Starting at the station, the route begins with a short 50-meter walk that takes you to the access of the slopes. Continue following the groomer track to the left to the base of the rocks, where a dynamic staircase takes you to the summit of the Madonna della Neve Statue, located at 2960 meters. In about 25 minutes, this route gives you the option of continuing with the 11 Peaks + 1 tour or returning by following the same route, or even veering right for an alternative along Emerald Lake.
Tour 11 Peaks + 1
Once you reach the Madonna della Neve Statue, follow the slope to the right along an articulated ridge that leads to the vicinity of the San Pietro ski lift. In about 30 minutes from the statue-or 50 minutes from the station-the trail gives you unique views. When he reaches the top of the ski lift, he carefully crosses over and, from a small nozzle, begins the descent on the left side of the lift following the tracks. Near the Cai Refuge, a well-marked slope will take you back to the cable car station in about 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Why 11 Peaks + 1?
This route allows you to admire eleven majestic peaks belonging to the Monte Rosa and Mischabel ranges, all over 4,000 meters above sea level. And it doesn’t end there: the arrival at the St. Peter ski lift reveals yet another wonder, the Weissmies, which reaches an impressive 4013 meters, thus completing a must-do tour for mountain lovers.
